The Bike Song

ANNA ELIZABETH LAUBE

We're going riding on our bike bikes
We're going riding on our bike bikes
We're going riding on our bike bikes today

Well I got my first bike when I was five
Was the best one I'd seen in my short little life
And I went ridin' on my brand new bike that day

It had training wheels and a silver bell
That little red bike went fast as hell
Down the streets of Iowa City

Well my next bike had a banana seat
And I thought that was pretty neat
And so did all my friends
They called me Anna Banana

Rode my brother's old bike for a little while
That shiny bronze Schwinn made me smile
I always did wanna be just like him

Finally got a big blue bike when I turned 14
Was the most beautiful thing that I had ever seen
And I went ridin' on my birthday bike that day
All the way to Verona
For some frozen custard

Well when it was time to go to college
I threw my bike in the back and went to seek some knowledge
Along with my mini-fridge and extra long sheets

Did a triathlon when I was up there
And another one at 24
And after that I said Good Lord, please, no more
'Cause I hate running
But I love biking

I'm going riding on my bike bike
I'm going riding on my bike bike
I'm going riding on my bike bike today

Well then I shipped my bike out to Californ-i-a
I rode my bike to work nearly every day
Over that number 1-0-1 freeway
Looking down at the traffic

I'm going riding on my bike bike
I'm going riding on my bike bike
I'm going riding on my bike bike today

I took a spill out on my bike one night
Those J-Church tracks put up a pretty good fight
I was coming back from Golden Gate Park after a Tom Petty concert
Believe it or not I got a scar in the shape of Mike Campbell's double-necked guitar

Then I left San Francisco to come back home
I left my Rockhopper out there all alone
In the care of a great friend
Who did not take great care of it

So I rescued that bike and took it in for a tune-up
I picked it the very next afternoon up
That bike was born again
Hallelujah!

I'm going riding on my bike bike
I'm going riding on my bike bike
I'm going riding on my bike bike today

Well now I'm back at home in old Madison Town
We got all these bike paths that go around
And we're ridin' and a-singin' that sound

We're going east, we're going west
We're going downtown, too
We're going around the lakes
And past the zoo
In one of the finest cities I ever knew
It's true!

We're all riding on our bike bikes
We're all riding on our bike bikes
We're all riding on our bike bikes today

We're all riding on our bike bikes
We're all riding on our bike bikes
We're all riding on our bike bikes today
