Empty Space

Christopher Dakin

Skipping stones just to count the ripples
Spending years just to watch as memories fade
I opened my hands just to fill them with empty space

Laid to rest in a coffin built for two
And even if a spark were to remain
I would hesitate, to set it alight
Based on the lessons I have learnt
Corrupt the sanctity, we once sought to protect
Redeem a sense of dignity amongst this flaming wreck
Naivety has caused this narrative to break

Clear your way through the fog, to draw a line in the sand
And alleviate yourself and I from this plague
Submerged in defeat, I can't breathe easy
But I will persevere through the depths, to be crowned the victor
Fortune hasn't proved itself a friend
Relapse; I do away with the loose ends
This is more than I can comprehend

Level out your faults to mine, and seek comfort in this divide
A monument erect, from the vein of selfishness
It's like watching as the blind lead the blind

Skipping stones just to count the ripples
Spending years just to watch as memories fade
I opened my hands just to fill them with empty space
Naivety has caused this narrative to break
