Light Pollution

Basil Roberts

All my life you were that city on the hill
And I was the kid who sat still
All complaisant and quiet
And blinded by you light

And when I finally skipped town
Left my family and friend to figure out
I can see stars
When you are gone

And it's not as bad once you're used to it
There's no more light pollution
And I see that you delight in your execution
Of finally finding all of my fragility
But at least I can see it coming

People in hell don't get iced water
That's including you
You're so meticulous with everything
but I don't think you thought this through

My perception of God is skewed
My perception of God is you
But you won't find me singing
your praises in pews

I can see right through you now

And it's not as bad once you're used to it
There's no more light pollution
And I see that you delight in your execution
Of finally finding all of my fragility
But at least I can see it coming

Who am I to think you'd sabotage me?
Who am I to think I don't need you for anything?

It's not as bad once you're used to it
There's no more light pollution
And I see that you delight in your execution
Of finally finding all of my fragility
But at least I can see it coming
