Nightengale's Revenge

Aaron McEvoy, Anthony Salvini

There's an eye in the clouds
Watching rays of light disguised as animals
I've been hanging with the lions
Drinking root beer floats
Beyond the boardwalks of Coney Island
Waving at the geese as they fly by

A melody besieged my ear
A nightingale was climbing up my leg (with flowers)
I shocked the tanners surfing on their towels
When I stuck my tongue inside that little birds pointed mouth

Conversation developed
Seems we both had relatives in North Carolina
How funny!
What a wonderful trip we'd have
Chauffeuring that Nightingale down I-95
Hope it's sunny!

But the car broke down so quick
I reached over for that kiss
And I missed (in New Jersey)
As the remnants on my lips were bloody
Whistling a song for somebody who had to leave
It rips apart your mouth, my friend
But if I had a chance
I would kiss that immortal bird again
And I would savor her revenge
I could not save her from revenge
The nightingale's revenge!
