I woke up in the middle of the night To a crazy dream
There were people lined up by the riverside Asking to be redeemed
There was one tall figure in the middle of it all With water up to his knees
He said well I ain't the messiah But repent and be set free

Well I walked down kinda fast and proud Couldn't wait my turn
He said before you stand in the murky sand There's something that you should learn There's a chosen man God's sending down All you gotta do is believe
Well, I woke up when I heard What John the Baptist said to me

He said, leave your sins in the river Jordan Just cry Holy to the Lord
I'm God's prophet, heed my warning Heaven's got so much in store
aw, then all at once I cried out Lord forgive me please
and to this day, I can't forget What John the Baptist said to me

Well I turned from my wicked ways Got my life back on track
And every night I fall asleep I'm praying I can get right back
To that magical time in the middle of the night When I had that crazy dream
Now I live my life by the words Ol' John the Baptist said to me
