A Change in Plans

Philip Miller, Robert Sabochick

The thief sat at the bar
With watchful eyes
He knew they'd caught his trail
But he's a master of disguise
The sweat crawled down his neck
He braced himself for what came next

He takes his final shot
And feels their footsteps creeping on the floor
He puts out his smoke, puts on his coat
And slides out the back door
Silent through the shadowy street
He matched the pace of his tired heart's beat

Halfway through his getaway
He gets the sense he's not alone
He knows this time they've got him
So he prepares for their blows
He wakes up bound and tied
Their last mistake was leaving him alive

They should've seen it coming
It was revenge for what they took form him
They should've started running
The day they took his only friend
And though it seemed so hopeless
Because of all these changing plans
Showing no emotion
He'd wait until he'd get them in the end

Before they even knew it
His hands were free and at their throats
And with his guns a-blazin'
They couldn't see through all the smoke
He left no man standing
And made it out without a scratch
He'd gotten what he came for
And walked right out and turned his back

They should've seen it coming
It was revenge for what they took form him
They should've started running
The day they took his only friend
And though it seemed so hopeless
Because of all these changing plans
Showing no emotion
He'd wait until he'd get them in the end
