sorrow

Anthony Kirkland

Someone once said that
Peace is not the absence of conflict, but the ability to cope with it
If so, then why am I so conflicted
I mean, I'm a peaceful individual. God knows that I don't want to be residual
Left with these woes of pain and affliction, that are leaving me in my heart absolutely conflicted
Love, love, love does nothing but create confliction
Confliction in the mind, confliction in the soul
Love at times has a hold, it just won't let go
Or maybe that's infatuation
These feelings I've been feeling of passion, expecting the irrational
And now we just can't let go, can't let go
Maybe it's jealousy, or could it be hate
It's just this ongoing emotional weight
It's exhausting, all the exuberance in my soul
And I just can't let go
Ah, joy and happiness, these emotions don't exist
I mean, unless of course, confliction is amidst
These rainy days, they come for periods at a time
But when the sun shines, it's like I'm living in glory
Ooh, and it's mine, all mine, all mine
Confliction that I have only exists by way of my existence, God
I'm at your feet again, asking why am I so conflicted
I don't understand what's become of this young man
Oh, my heart is heavy, laid low
And it's not by the pain of my affliction
It's by everyday torment and struggle of
This absolute confliction
God, I need a word from you
I'm asking you to rid me of this unfortunate condition
It's clouding my judgment, I feel so restricted
Why can't I just have peace
Don't want to unalive
Scared that I might try
Afraid that I might die
God, I need a word from you
