Putting on a Show

Jan Juránek

We wear multiple modest masks
With sometimes less than modest intentions
And pay less and less attention to affection
No wonder modern love breaks so easily

Fragility is not an ailment
And displaying nudity is not lewd
Praised be the ones who own their rawness
Their blemishes, yellow teeth or thin hair

We are not here - in this all together
To put on a pitch perfect play
And be made up like dolls
Inside empty cheap cartons

We are to put out a force for the ultimate good
Not inferior nor greater, only good
We will then always be able to be remade
Refined into something fresh and new
