Sentencing of a Cynic

Braden Hobbs

There was a time in days of yore
When you were proud of what you were
You don't dare dwell in that place anymore
You lied and you cheated you let your pride eat you
You acted so perverse
You stole all the things you thought you deserved

Confession's just a means to an end
When you're bound to do it all again

It seems you have eroded to a cynical man
A crooked little figure with blood on your hands
You dwell down in the shadows of all earthly things
You beg and you crawl on your hands and knees

Maybe stress is to blame from the habits you've made
that molded you into this shape
It's your sole doing to the throne you laid claim
You seem unsure. Are you hoping for nothing
Are you pissing in the wind
Maybe god's bigger than the boxes he's in

Quiet down to hear the blasphemer speak
Lies fly from between his teeth
He dwells down in the shadows of all earthly things
He will follow his earthly dreams

But in the end he will crawl on his hands and his knees
Until the end he'll place blame on any but he
In the end he will crawl on his hands and his knees
Until the end he'll wear shackles on his hands and feet
