Son-Of-A-Gun

David Faulkner

I've landed myself in a jam,
I knew it the moment the prison door slammed.
I shot a man dead just to show how tough I am.
It wasn't planned.
The way it went down it was late,
I got a bit fresh with some other man's date,
He met me outside and that's where he met his fate.
(A big mistake)
My lawyer said I had no "just cause"
And the best I could do was to clutch at straws.
Now you son-of-a-gun, look at what you've done.

My record was no help at all,
I've got a string of convictions since juvenile hall.
I stood up in court and they nailed me to the wall.
(And that was all...)
The jury were sure that I lied.
It took all of ten minutes for those good people to decide.
The judge hid a smile as he sentenced me with pride.
Nobody cried.
Now I'm looking at twenty before parole,
By the time I get out of here I'll be old.
Now you son-of-a-gun, look at what you've done
You son-of-a-gun, you're missing all the fun.

What I wouldn't give now to have a good time with my friends...
And what I wouldn't give now to live my life over again.
I'd do it all over again!

I'm sick of the everyday grind
And in a world without women's about to make me go blind.
They say life goes on but, then, I put mine behind.
Just doing time. Just doing time.
I got the conviction that I was framed
But I'll still be stuck in here all the same.
Now, you son-of-a-gun, look at what you've done.
Yeah, you son-of-a-gun, you're missing all the fun.
