Salomé

Jon Ramos

My grandfather lived 91 years righteously
Gave his life to Christ to find the key to life you see
Inspired me and everybody who crossed paths
Hustled for hard cash but never left a dark past
Honest labor, he worked the razor, the illest taper,
Cutting heads to get the paper, nobody greater
He loved a hater, his loving nature was God’s favor
Made many racists change behavior and see the Savior
Served his country, family, and community
Left a blueprint for you and me, truthfully
Married over 70 years, we shed tears
Telling granny it's gon be okay the Lord is near
A true light, who would fight, when it came down to his fam though
Helped raise me and my brothers a real man yo
Hard to see this man go, but trusting God’s plan
Salome you might've known him as Sam
With all my energy I’m holding up your legacy
I hope how I remember you is how they remember me
Man of the century almost lived a century
Trust I’ma hold you in my heart and my memory
Oh until we meet again, yeah
Watch over as the world get colder all we ask,
Until we meet again
We gon celebrate your story, give God all the glory, cuz I know we gon meet again
He was born on December 3, 1926, ugh
Youngest of 13 kids, imagine this, ugh
Sonora, Texas, small town you never heard about
Nobody concerned about, news travel by word of mouth
Went to the Mexican school to get his education
Back before Brown vs. the Board ended segregation
Where he met Fela, my Abuela
And she love to tell of a handsome young man, intelligent fella
After school, World War 2 was at hand
He was just a young man, stationed in Japan
Serving a country that didn’t even treat him equal
So, watch your mouth before speaking about my people
He was different built relationships to bring people together
Became the first Mexican school board member
Served in the church til the day he wasn’t able
Co-producer credit, bought my first turntable
With all my energy I’m holding up your legacy
I hope how I remember you is how they remember me
Man of the century almost lived a century
Trust I’ma hold you in my heart and my memory
Oh until we meet again, yeah
Watch over as the world get colder all we ask,
Until we meet again
We gon celebrate your story, give God all the glory, cuz I know we gon meet again
He wrote his chapter, I'm coming after, the ink flowing
Far from perfect but know it's worth to keep growing
Our legacy's at stake, that's heavy weight
Hard to fill the shoes of a great, make no mistake, but he
Deserves it, and left a foundation for us to build on
His flesh gone, but i feel his spirit it's still strong
No room for beef in the fam he would be heartbroken
Hope everybody can reconcile with hearts open
Family is all that matters we can’t have distractions
Have us speaking words we never back up with actions
That goes for all of us kill the pride and the selfishness
Don't be too busy to show love and selflessness
Know he looking down from the Heavens
Like count your blessings,
I be the thinking of how he lived when i be stressing
He left the greatest example, i ain’t got no excuse
God, family, then self now execute
With all my energy I’m holding up your legacy
I hope how I remember you is how they remember me
Man of the century almost lived a century
Trust I’ma hold you in my heart and my memory
Oh until we meet again, yeah
Watch over as the world get colder all we ask,
Until we meet again
We gon celebrate your story, give God all the glory, cuz I know we gon meet again
