A Bitter Christmas (Live)

Jane Siberry

[Interlude]
It was the night before Christmas and all through the house
The children were excited hoping for snow
It looked like it would snow, but no, no, no
Good, I'm glad
The next morning
Father had set the alarm clock, but it didn't go off
So the whole household slept all the way through Christmas Day
Good, I'm glad
And then they thought
"We'll still open all our presents the day after Christmas"
So they raced down the stairs
They flew down the stairs
They streamed down the stairs into the living room
And there, there— oh!
Well, good, I'm glad
Okay
So, as I looked for songs to do, before I decided—
Before the option of cancelling the show was concrete—
I decided, um, I— I was looking—
I knew there were certain songs that would
Grow and reveal themselves to be the core of the show
And I think we found a good collection of songs that to me is a good—
I think the worst thing to do is get up and sing songs about gratitude and happiness
Before you set the stage of needing to feel gratitude or happiness
Otherwise it comes off as saccharine, or too sweet
And, and, and it makes people mad
So, um, anyway
I think we have a good balance and some of the most beautiful songs I've heard
We're doing some of them old hymns that you probably haven't heard of
And, and also I have a fine, fine group of musicians playing with me
Who are joining forces with me to create this for you
