Follow Me

Jay Alexander

This is not the time to run away
This now a time to face the day
Won't you take my hand and follow me?
As we paint beauty in shades of gray

Let me have your attention please
I need to get something off my knees
I would say my chest, but that ain't quite it
See, I've been having to dig through some shit
I've been struggling lately finding my pathway
And I've been trying to do things only halfway
But I know that ain't the proper way to go
I just need to finally know
I gotta figure out where along the line I derailed
And started to careen down into these pits of hell
That surround me now, wonder if I'll ever find a way out
Congrats, mental illness, you took the first bout
But don't let that fool you, I'm not done
You have not inevitably won
Just wait until we both see the sun
This fight's only just begun

This is not the time to run away
This now a time to face the day
Won't you take my hand and follow me?
As we paint beauty in shades of gray

Take my hand, and I'll give you a tour
Of a place that always makes me unsure
Is it a place nearby? Oui monsieur
It's a bit tough to stomach, take some Ensure
This right here is the center of my genius
But don't let that give you a false premise
It's complicated and strange inside this head
I desire to live and also to be dead
But the fact of the matter is that I try
And I always push forward, do or die
In every single day that I laugh and cry
I finish each out with a relieved sigh
Because I know I made something to admire
And that feeling helps me start to rise higher
So take my hand, and you will see
All the grey-scale beauty, follow me

This is not the time to run away
This now a time to face the day
Won't you take my hand and follow me?
As we paint beauty in shades of gray
