I Waited Patiently for the Lord (Psalm 40:1-11)
I waited patiently for the Lord
cnd he inclined his ear to my cry
He brought me out from destruction's pit
cnd set my feet in places high
He put a new song in my mouth
That by many it may be heard
So I shall sing His praises out
That many shall trust in the Lord
[chorus]
Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord
Not in proud men, or in falsehoods
But upon His Holy Word
Many, Oh Lord, Your wondrous works
cnd Your thoughts to us a fount
If I declare and speak of them
They are too numerous to count
My sacrifice, you have not desired
But to my ears and lips did impart
My soul's delight to do your will
Your law is written on my heart
I have proclaimed your righteousness
To your people without restraint
I have not hidden it in my heart
But have declared it to your saints
[final chorus]
Withhold not your tender mercies, O Lord, from me
Let your lovingkindness and your truth
Preserve me endlessly
