River Birch

Josey Wallace

Spring has finally sprung this year
You could come and lay out on the lawn
I would sit and play for you
And patiently observe until you're gone
River birch out by the shore
We don't know what life's in store
Fade away from memory our unity
And think of you as one

How the river birch fell down
Is something only birds have found
Only they were there to hear that terrible sound
Of when that old river birch fell down

Cracker sings of river birches, spring, and love
And laying on the lawn
Elsewhere in the world
Her country's genocidal armies are marching on
Elsewhere in her town
Motel prices are much much too high
She just closes her eyes and thinks of
All the beautiful things she'll try

How the river birch fell down
Is something only birds have found
Only they were there to hear that terrible sound
Of when that old river birch fell down
