Was 7.40 in the sky when Whitehall ordered last goodbyes
Lest we forget' so often said yet Passchendaele still painted red
How slowly time flies in deadlock, no facing back to slop the clocks
They watch below the silent flight into the jaws of hopeless plight
Was 7.50 in the sky no real means to justify, how soon forgotten was Versailles?
So keep again a weather eye and should we sing the Marseillaise?
If ignorance is bliss, who says?
