Belly of the Beast

They went digging underground in a foreign land,
Dusting off the cache with a careful hand
And finally making sense of things that we
Never knew to understand

Buried in the ages, lost in time
A history out of sight and out of mind
As legend grew like gossip the truth would be
What no one dared to find

And the truth is often hidden underneath
Like a prophet in the belly of the beast
And like anything that’s worth it
Takes some time and
A little bravery

I’m sitting on a couch in therapy
I’m still talkin’ about my fucked up family
And terrified to take a look inside
Afraid what I might see

But I’m so tired of pretending I’m Ok
Building playgrounds over graveyards for display
Is there freedom when we take off the disguise
And just look it in the face?

Yeah, the truth is often hidden underneath
Like a prophet in the belly of the beast
And like anything that’s worth it
Takes some time and
A little bravery
