Smell Of Love

Michael Cherkawski

Well her twinklin' eyes they were more than stars
Well I begged and I burned, to be less than scars
And my laughter sweeter than gospel hymns
The Devil slapped my back and he poured some sin and
A girl in a stable she looked like you
Been a liar my whole life but I swear its true
And the boy who cried wolf, and the boy who is lost
They’ll stay together forever, no matter the cost

It started off as poetry, we became something more
Now all I have is memories, of her walking out the door
Maybe there's a silver lining thats buried in the sand
But hourglasses don't slow down, they search for a new man

(Well) The smell of love her perfume was cheap
It was hay from the barn and the burnin’ trees
And my eyes of oceans and the great beyond
All she was was a summer song
Well my lungs collapsed, I lost all my air
With the moon on her hair and a gospel prayer
Oh angel, angel, let me roam
I needed to rent, but my heart you now own
