Moon
Repose
It’s still and it’s calm
The sky as though the Pacific was suspended in the heavens
Stars hang in the air like eternal snowflakes
The moon, poised lovingly above the world
(Like she’s been known to do by those who awaken from a dream
And just as quickly return to sleep)
Gracefully blankets the earth in sheets of cerulean-white luminance
A mother attends her child’s sleep
What reverie she finds to accompany the rhythmic breathing
A thousand thoughts, a thousand dreams, tip-toe in and out of sight
From the conscious to the back of the mind
And then again before the eyes
Bustling and racing
Then lying back down
But now is not the time for such anxieties
It’s a time of rest, of silent joy, of delighted contentment
Quietly elated with the presence of the other
A time to secretly revel in the one she loves
“And I’ll sing sweetly over you”
