Flute Solo (Live at the Royal Albert Hall)

Frederik van Pallandt

[Spoken Intro]
Nina and I live on what is thus a very magical island in the Mediterranean
And it is magical among other reasons
Because wherever you look you find evidence of
People who come there for thousands of years
As far back as the Phoenicians

Among other things, this flute
This is a very primitive instrument
It only had two holes on the top and one on the bottom
Three fingers
And it's so old that perhaps it's even the very flute that Pan played on

And then, onе day man came to Pan
And said, "Hey, Pan, what's music?"
And Pan said, "Music is evеrywhere
But you must know how to reach for it"
And the man said, "Well, how do I reach for it?"
And he says, "Like the morning breeze blows through the rushes
Blow through this reed"
