Air

Phoebe Workman

Air is silk in my throat, velvet on my tongue
But all this material is cluttering my lungs
I trip, I choke each breath I take
Reminds me how I constantly ache
I gasp for rush of air to fill my holes

Air is stifling my thoughts and hushing my mind
This could be a struggle for all of mankind
I wonder, ponder, do or be?
'Til I remember, I'm just me
I gasp and hope the air can keep me whole

Air is ageing my skin and stiffening my bones
It's stealing my thunder (Stealing thunder)
As it cyclones (As it cyclones)
It's stealing my thunder right from my soul

But velvet on my tongue
And silk in my throat
The air I breathe deeply can it keep me afloat?
