A Hermit Named Dave

STEVENS, RAY

Well there was an old hermit named dave
Who lived by himself in the woods in a cave
Ate from a turtle shell, slept on a bath skin had a seven foot beard growing out of his chin
He'd been dodging the draft for twenty-three years and he'd say:
That. Ain't never getting me, they ain't never gonna find me in here, err that doebeats i'm too smart for them, them dumbs a fools, fools all of them fools, society bar

No er'yday dave would go out in the woods and sit on a stump mongst the leaves, trees and mushrooms and things, and just meditate, yes, cos he were a philosopher you know,
Like he were a deep thinker man, and he'd get out there and think about the futility of the civilized world and he'd just laugh and he'd say, hehehee haha ohohoh hehehehe

There was an old hermit named dave
Who lived by himself in the woods in a cave
Ate from a turtle shell, slept on a bath skin had a seven foot beard growing out of his chin

Then one day long come Clarence P. Scoggins boppin through the pores and oak with his tennis's on and his double breasted continental overalls with the big ben in the front pocket.
Just settin out them rabbit boxes and kickin' them black bears on his off day from the cement plant you know,
Now Calrence, her were ignorant, I mean man, you know he were oblivious to the whole scene. You've heard of people didn't know nothing, man Clarence didn't even suspect nothing. So he come flippin' and skippin' through the woods, happily whistling a little song
(whistle), when whom shall he chance upon but old Dave, sitting on his stump in deep meditation pickin the vermin out of his long white beard and transmitting all them weird thoughts out into the ionosphere. And Clarence he spy old Dave just sitting there and he say Err Uhh Hey! Uhuhhuh Well I mean you know he weren't too original? And old Dave he look out from under his goat skin hat and he say What? and Clarence say, Watcha mean what? and Dave say, Watcha mean watcha mean what? and Clarence say, Watcha mean, Watcha mean, Watcha mean what? and Dave say perturmean sat? And Clarence say, huh? and Dave say You must be a simple, of society and he starts a laughing at old Clarence and he say hehehee haha ohohoh hehehehe Now this make Clarence mad and he say, Ehh you a summin outta me and with that he flips his cigarette off into the brush and squares of at Dave and Dave gets up from off his stump and squares off at Clarence and they bout to go at it when Smokey the Bear bays the scene an he say uh uh uh uh uhhh best don't be flippin none of them cigarettes in the bush there flipper! and with that he grabs Clarence by the arm and he hauls him off to face the forest ranger. Which brings us to the moral of our story which is if the guitar pickles will stop picking ill tell you the moral of the story. The moral of the story is Whatever you think, don't never unless you will.
