This is the first step in your lives as young adults
I'm your professor, and welcome to the campus here in the Bronx
Every year, I enjoy welcoming young people as yourselves into this classroom
And watching you grow right in front of my eyes
As you tackle the rigorous new lifestyle that comes along with being a college student
Remember, even though you may feel like college isn't for you
It's a very important step in the direction of your professional development
And you'll most likely go nowhere without it
Sure, most of you have taken out loans
Have to work side jobs
Maybe even have kids you have to look after
But I promise it'll be worth it when you're standing there on the stage
On graduation day
And your family and your kids are telling you how proud they are of you
