Upward Dog
Sunlight peeking through a hole in the clouds
The sign on the tree house says "No Girls Allowed"
Everything seems as it should be
And yet there's something wrong
It's not all that it could be
For a would-be upward dog
One night it occurred to me in my bed
All these doubts and uncertainties
They're all in your head
Trying break this downward spiral
You wake up in a fog
Your mistakes are going viral
But turn your smile upward dog
Upward dog
Always taking the high road
Ridding your mind of these jaded disciples
Picking the world up by the scruff of the neck
Spending every day like it was a blank cheque
Go get 'em upward dog
Sunlight breaking through a cloud in my mind
The sign on the dollhouse reads "No Boys Inside"
Everybody's up and at 'em
Or else they're sawing logs
If you can't join 'em beat 'em
Go get 'em upward dog
Upward dog
Never taking the low road
Ridding your mind of these train-hopping hobos
Picking the world up by the scruff of the neck
Not wasting every day like it's all a stacked deck
Love beckons upward dog
Everybody's up and at 'em
Or else they're sawing logs
If you can't join 'em beat 'em
Go get 'em upward dog
Upward dog
Always taking the high road
Ridding your mind of these jaded disciples
Picking the world up by the scruff of the neck
And not facing everyday like it was a train wreck
Go get 'em upward dog
