Open Road
It's been a long time since I rode on open roads
And reawakened my desire for adventure
Contemplating little else but the times I took a chance
Fear and zeal in equal measure
And the beat of your heart races rapidly away
When you take the time to recollect the days
Oh, those days, did you ever appreciate?
When you think they caress you like a feather
But they weighed on you as heavily as stones
Leave it all behind to feel sunny and stormy weather
Like a day on the only open road
What comes across is not for us to know
Looking for reasons for the things I never did
I just simply can't be bothered to remember
The eye of my mind must've filters on its lid
Making squalor become splendour
It's as fleeting as a spark from the braking of a train
If you blink you may not witness it again
There and then, did you fully appreciate?
Only life makes you as tough as shoe leather
After dropping you and breaking every bone
Never meant to cruise along or grasp it altogether
Like a day on the open road
What comes across is not for us to know
When you think they caress you like a feather
But they weighed on you as heavily as stones
Leave it all behind to feel sunny and stormy weather
Like a day on the only open road
What comes across is not for us to know
