Fading Bright Eyes Dark
I've tripped and I've stumbled through all of my life
Surrounded by promises I broke every time
There's no way I'm allowing my stupid mistakes
To stick around until I bend and break
Because yesterday can harbour my history, while tomorrow it shelters my dreams
And telling me I'm so insignificant means nothing to me
And I know I don't look like a movie star but I've played every prominent part
In fading bright eyes so very dark
Love can be deadly in the wrong kind of hands
From Sunset to Main Street you consumed the man I am
But the lines on my face are where the smiles have been
From memories locked inside of me
Because yesterday can harbour my history, while tomorrow it shelters my dreams
And telling me I'm so insignificant means nothing to me
And I know I don't look like a movie star but I've played every prominent part
In fading bright eyes so very dark
In fading her bright eyes so very dark
This is all I can say
Everyone knows that we stand in the past
Too afraid to speak up and say
Please spare me a lifetime of old photographs
A thousand words spoke without weight
If the years of frustration distort what you see
It's harder and harder to leave
It will never be too late to be what you could have been
Don't spend your day feeling sorry, don't be sorry
Yesterday is nothing but history, and tomorrow it will shelter our dreams
