For the Family
Have you ever had a dream that had seemed way too big to achieve it?
And did you fold with the pressure or fit to the mold?
Were you supported by loved ones that had you whenever you needed
Or were you forced to pursue what you’d seen on your own?
I was young, I looked up
To all of the greatest
Wanted to be someone
Wanted to be famous
I never knew the price was
Life and my love
Might have fucked up
I’m breaking all my promises
And my heart when grandma says,
“You don’t ever visit”
Ignoring the important texts
Making songs for all my friends
That wouldn’t listen
And momma’s had a job since she was fourteen
Sacrificing so much to support me
I gotta repay her
It’s not enough to thank her
Gotta make it worth the time I’d waste
Gotta make up for all my mistakes
I’m committed
Hundreds spread over the pavement
On the path I chose
Can’t spend life inside a basement
But one day, I’ll come home
Do this for the family
And pray that when I make it they forgive and understand me
