Scar

Anna Wildsmith

I scaled the steeps
I hit the heights
The view was awful nice
The rock I'd roped
Didn't hold
And down my only goal

I crawled the cliff
On the edge
Clambered
Scared
Scurrying from scar to crag
Slipping
Scratching a grip on the scree
Scrambling
Senseless till I could clutch the earth's moist crust
And tread on plain terrain

It rains there
There are no more buffalos

In the wilderness of woe
I now wander
And wonder
Why the sky
Tricks my eye with its partner in crime
The ground where I wished to found
My sunset
Together they target
My weakened sight
Hurling horizons of helpless hope at my plight
Heaven and Earth bending, blending
Merging into impotent lovers
Shamming a shameless caress
I call their bluff
They cannot touch
The mirage reveals they are foes

I do not belong here

On plain terrain
All is plain
But the ravaging savagery of sorrow
That burns my soul to a hollow
From which I must depart
And once again
Ascend the mountain
Wherefrom I lost my heart
