Rattlin'

Trevor Garrod

I've been shot for trespassing
Down in New Orleans
Tangled up I've been undone
I've been uncovered and out run

Rattling' on the wind
Looking for the whispered ship that we've been
Following for a season
Rattlin' on the wind

I was born free I was born proud
With my head in the sky and my feet on the ground
I've been caught in a spider's web
By casting nets and ladies beds

Rattlin' on the wind . . .

I have seen the kudzu
How it cover's half the south
Its covering my head
And coming out my mouth
I feel like I'm fleeing
Where the trees withstand the flood
I'm careful where I'm walking
Don't want to slip in the mud

The hitch hiker was leading me
To the sweet water at the mountains feet
That forest porch light slapped my eye
The door swung wide a night owl cries

The hitch hiker just cursed his word
Disappeared just as I heard
A bomb shell blast that split the night
It took me down and blew my mind

Rattlin' on the wind. . .
