The Lake at Night

the lake at night will dance with me / while everyone is sleeping / the lake in darkness answers me / to all the things my skin is asking / but I cannot stay here with you / in this shelter you've built us here / because I know God favors those / who will come out courageously / I see the sun shine on the leaves / the water holds the fishes / and oh the glory of the trees / whose arms are spread so wide and high / and tiny ant I climb and sing / and whither on the ground and die / I know the light held out and given / when I go where I am in it
