We're scared to turn it off
It might not come back on again
It's been so many years
The engineers have long passed on

The motors and the cogs
Run on human thoughts, we think
It drinks oil like a thirsty dog
It rivals the sun, the heat that it gives off

We're not sure what it does
The byproduct's invisible to us

Buried our dead beneath the Earth
It's as sacred as a golden cow
We're milking it for all it's worth

A monument with moving parts
The fossil that fuels our bleeding hearts
