A Meditation

Anna Semple, Robert Willis, St John Henry Newman

God has created me to do some definite service,
Some work which has not been committed to another.
I am a link in a chain, a bond of connection between persons.
I shall do good, be an angel of peace, a preacher of truth in my own place,
If I do but keep God's commandments.

Whatever I am, my sickness, my perplexity, my sorrow may serve God,
Who does nothing in vain.
When I am among strangers and friendless,
When my spirits sink and my future lies hidden,
Still I may serve God, for God does nothing in vain.
