Lift up My Wings

Tom Baxter

From the ashesof an earlier self,
in the gambling wheels
I pull back on my old overcoatand hear the echo's of distant shores.
Dark winter skies were the map and it hurts,
but if inside a tavern exists, could it save me from these ship- wrecked eyes?
I need to learn how to let go.
Learn how to stand on my own two feet and love again.
But each time I try,I lift up my wings and it aches.

Now there's a dark cloudout there on my horizon
like a bubble that's waiting to burst.
I'm bankrupt, just a curious poet craving salvation inside.
I was tricked by the great silver screen,I spin the wheels.
I'm strung out on old battle scars in the framework of diving for pearls
I need to learn how to let go
Learn how to stand on my own two feet and love again.
But each time I try, when I lift up my wings it aches
