BLIND MAN

David Parsons

Feel the blind man...as he says what he sees
Before he runs of out of time, dying from a disease
Called life. We all got it, and no one is above it
So we suffer from it...but we wanna make like we love it
We must be high to try inflating a burst bubble
Some just wanna see us stumble. They're the worst of us
And the source of the curse that's now been forced on us
We can make a break for the plate...but only if we're honest
We can't make a play if we ain't on the same page
But these days we rage over public parking spaces
The face of today's terrorist looks like you
They talk just like you...so what should I do?
I try to get through to the people that really hear me
But to really feel me...you gotta get real near me
Don't fear me...fear these cosmic truths that I speak
Feel the room freeze as I lay the clues at your feet

If you could only see half
Where would you cast your gaze?
If you could see the past
But not forward to better days?
Would you laugh it off
Knowing one day you'll have to pay?
Cuz that's what happens
When the Blind Man leads the way

It only ever takes a minute on our own
To realize why we all truly deserve to be alone
I don't need a mirror...cuz I fear what I see
The reflection of my enemy's always staring back at me
I coulda been anything...instead I'm just this
Used to take every shot...these days I usually miss
I thought I was hot...for a minute, maybe so
But I've been freezing for years, maybe I aught to let it go
Ain't getting another show...nobody wants to listen
To a white guy rapping about opportunities missed and
The anger at self...for not selling out
So an entire album just sat on a shelf
While hip-hop transitioned from real to some Tofu
Maybe that was the hell I really needed to go through
But just like before, I'm standing here at the door
And this time my mind is truly prepared for war

If you could only see half
Where would you cast your gaze?
If you could see the past
But not forward to better days?
Would you laugh it off
Knowing one day you'll have to pay?
Cuz that's what happens
When the Blind Man leads the way

Twenty years ago I wrote poems-urban in nature
It's what I know...and so my flow gets constantly hated
"Oh it's too wordy. Ha! Your rhymes don't make sense"
And cents add up to dollars...ain't made a dollar since
I listen so intently when these new cats hit
Hoping they say something intelligent, but most of 'em miss
Instead of win...mumbling about money again
That's funny when they couldn't make their mark with a fucking pen
But then again, who am I to disparage and tear 'em down?
That's not what we're here for...music beefs are for clowns
Just turn it around..this should be school for the masses
Music is passion...whatever your color and class is
The tools crafted and handed down from the past
Fail in the hands of all those too weak or too passive
The weight is massive because the power is great
Get it all or fall...it's either Fortune or Fate

If you could only see half
Where would you cast your gaze?
If you could see the past
But not forward to better days?
Would you laugh it off
Knowing one day you'll have to pay?
Cuz that's what happens
When the Blind Man leads the way
