sanctuary

Zahra Freedman

In those woods at the end of my street
I would roam and catch tadpoles in the heat
When the snow came those trees were the safe place to be
Now I realize why in those days I felt most myself
I found my way back to the things I enjoyed in my youth
Fills my soul like nothing else I'm starting to see anew
So I romanticize my life
The little things make my day nice
And each hobby that I find is like a new color
That lets me paint my life and make it less dull
Concerts had on kitchen windowsills
Films shot on candy colored iphones
Driveways we sat on while painting on tree bark
Now I realize why in those days I felt most myself
I found my way back to the things I enjoyed in my youth
Beauty wasn't hard to find but myself was so easy to lose
My phone conditions me
To be engaged all the time
So I have trouble getting by
With the mundane parts of life
So I romanticize my life
Yeah I romanticize my life
