Carnival of Plague

Wian Jacobs

The silence of the night shattered
Thunder shakes the earth
And in its wake, out of the black
Arise the lords of decay

Demon-drawn chariots of death draw near
On a vortex of black wind and thorns
Exhaling venomous breath
The carnival of plague is born

With sinews twisting, stretching & tearing
Black blood through pale veins
Corpses from the gallows and corpses from the grave
Beings spreading leprosy
Undevoted heretics
On and on the dying flee the dead

Desolate with the weakening eye of the day
Taste the disease in the air
Before you eyes the horror unfolds
Meet its hate-filled stare

Humanity united in fear and hopelessness
Abhor this morbidity
Eternal shadow into which we fall
Into hopeless insanity

With sinews twisting, stretching & tearing
Black blood through pale veins
Corpses from the gallows and corpses from the grave
Beings spreading leprosy
Undevoted heretics
On and on the dying flee the dead

Absurdity of mankind
Saved from mortal imperfection
Gaze with a vacant eye
All return to dust
Emotionless glory of the setting sun
No thoughts given to future or past

With sinews twisting, stretching & tearing
Black blood through pale veins
Corpses from the gallows and corpses from the grave
Beings spreading leprosy
Undevoted heretics
On and on the dying flee the dead
