Christmas Alone

Barth Frankenberry III

I mail all my presents a week in advance
In case it starts storming and cancels my plans
I pick a double to foot all the bills
I hope that on Christmas my world can be still for once

My aunt's and my uncle's prepare all the food
I'll meet them at Grandma's for my Christmas of Blues
I cry in the bathroom while they're setting my place
I had to remind them to take back their plate for you

While you give him presents and celebrate Christmas I hope I get stuck in the snow
I hope Christmas morning it's snowing and pouring so I don't go home all alone
I hope that I break down right off the westbound
And spend my day calling a tow
Cause Christmas alone is something I've grown to know

I'm writing a wishlist and you might be on it
But don't think that I'd take you back
I know I sound bitter but baby it's winter
I leave in a day haven't packed
And I'll write a letter and dress in a sweater and say I hear deer on the roof
And I'll be a good sport for the man that lives up North and say that I don't hate you

While you give him presents and celebrate Christmas I hope I get stuck in the snow
I hope Christmas morning it's snowing and pouring so I don't go home all alone
I hope that I break down right off the westbound
and spend my day calling a tow
Cause Christmas alone is something I've grown to know

(oh)
(Christmas Alone)

While you give him presents and celebrate Christmas I hope I get stuck the snow
I hope Christmas morning it's snowing and pouring so I don't go home all alone
And I'll have a breakdown when I get on that westbound
And put in directions for home
Christmas alone
