The Christ Child

So many years ago, a Child was born
But He wasn't like any child ever known
He lay in a manger, not a crib made of gold
And the royal nursery was a stable of old
Though He didn't have to be poor
A King such as He could afford so much more
And have all the wealth, and rule all the earth
He was instead born a carpenter's son

And while He lay there, some shepherds arrived
And in their simple hearts they knew that He had arrived
Though there were no trumpets, no fanfare to announce
The glorious star told them what it was about
Then suddenly there came a light
The angels came over to pay Him His rights
They knew He was King, they knew He had might
He was the one they called the Christ

And so the Scriptures wrote of the Christ Child
Whose birth enfleshed the promise of eternal life
In Israel's Bethlehem a history unfolds

So many years ago, a Child was born
He was the universal King whom everyone scorned
But thousands of years after that
They learned to adore the most eminent fact
That He was with us, that He lived for us
He was the one they called the Christ

But thousands of years after that
They learned to adore the most eminent fact
That He was with us, that He lived for us

He is the Christ, there is no doubt
