We Saw The Sea

Irving Berlin

We joined the Navy to see the world
And what we see? We saw the sea
We saw the Pacific and Atlantic
But the Atlantic is not romantic
And the Pacific is not what it's cracked up to be

We joined the Navy to do or die
But we do not and did not die
We were too busy watching the sea and sky
And what we see? We saw the sea
We saw the Atlantic and Pacific
But the Pacific is not terrific
And the Atlantic is not what it's cracked up to be

They tell us that Admiral
It's as good as it can be
But we never see the Admiral
Because the Admiral has never been to sea

We joined the Navy to see the girls
And what we see? We saw the sea
Instead of a girl or two in a taxi
We were forced to look for the Black Sea
Seeing the Black Sea is not what it's cracked up to be

Sailing, sailing home again
To see the girls on the village green
So, all foam again
To see the other seas we have not seen

We owe the Navy an awful lot
For they taught us how to do the Sailor's Hornpipe
And they showed us how to tie a sailor's knot
But more than that, they showed us the sea
We never get seasick sailing the ocean
We are not opposed to feel movement
We're never seasick but we are very sea sick
