Tell me where I've been
There's a stranger in my skin
My bearings and my memory are stripped
Can you place me on a map?
My mind is full of gaps
Lacunae like an ancient, half-burned manuscript

They're never quite as solid as they seem

I tried to memorize
The events behind my eyes
Their sick momentum and their deathly glow
Was it fantasy or sleep?
The rapture of the deep
Almost left me breathing out my last below
It's a cold, rocky, unforgiving world rising all around
Tell me: am I lost or am I found?

I've been wandering for a long long time
I've been wondering if it's just coincidence that I'm
In need of a master fabulist, a conjuror of scenes
Oh, who knows what it means?

I must have traveled far
Underneath uncharted stars
And icy contrails crossing in the foreign skies
So this is coming to
When I startled up I knew
The naked world had peeled back its disguise
And yet it seems to me there must be some mistake
Am I the only one awake?
