Philosophy on a Plato

[Plato - spoken]
Socrates has something very important to say to you

[Socrates]
I do?

[Plato]
Yes, remember? It's something they should all learn about

[Socrates]
When a man and a woman love each other very much-

[Plato]
Good gods, no! Where do you even get those thoughts?!

[Socrates]
I'm your puppet, all my thoughts are your thoughts!

[Plato]
I meant the philosophy!

[Socrates]
Oh, that's what you're calling it these days

[Plato]
Now, now. Ready?

[Socrates]
When you are!

[Socrates - sung]
Can anyone tell me what I mean by justice?

[Thrasymachus]
Justice? It's clearly just a scam
Only a sucker plays by the rules
If you don't cheat, thеn you are a fool
The only thing that pays is pure injusticе!

[Socrates]
For now my friend I shall ignore your question
Since you so cleverly avoided mine

[Plato]
Justice needs to be defined
Every thought must be refined

[Socrates]
But maybe that's beyond your comprehension

[Plato - spoken]
Okay, you're a tough crowd

[Socrates]
It's just because this one's stupid!

[Plato]
Socrates, say you're sorry!

[Socrates]
I'm sorry you're stupid

[Plato]
Can we get back to the philosophy?

[Socrates]
If you say so!
[sung]
Can anyone point to justice in a city?

[Thrasymachus]
Who said you'll find justice there at all?

[Socrates]
I never said it's everywhere!
In fact, you'll find it's very rare

[Plato]
But listen up, it's summed up in this ditty

[Socrates]
The perfect city has three classes:
The kings, the soldiers, and the masses
They all get on without a fuss
When we tell them what's right!

The kings will give out rational orders
The soldiers guard the city borders
The workers live in humble quarters
There's perfect unity

[Plato - spoken]
The just city needs the best people in charge, whether they were born rich or poor

[Socrates]
Unless they're born slaves!

[Plato]
So, we must move clever but poor children to the top of society, and stupid but rich children to the bottom

[Chorus]
Plato, we are lonely gossipers
You're a truly great philosopher
Your ideas will sure be popular
For eternity

[Plato - spoken]
The kings are wise, the soldiers brave, and the workers disciplined. Everybody is happy because the leaders know what is best. When everyone does his job and minds his own business, there is justice in the city

[Glaucon]
What an epic idea!

[Plato - sung]
There's one more thing I think I want to mention
Who do you suppose we put in charge?

[Glaucon]
Let them vote, we'll wait and see!

[Thrasymachus]
Maybe it's hereditary?

[Plato + Socrates]
Of course not
Our kings will be philosophers!

[Plato]
The city needs an aristocracy made of those who love philosophy
Leaders must be men like me if you want harmony!

[Together]
The city needs an aristocracy made of those who love philosophy
Leaders must be men like him
And we'll have harmony!
