The House Of Wind

Magicbox

Long, long ago,
before our grandfathers' and great-grandfathers' time,
there lived a poor woman named Archana,
in an Indian hillside village.
Archana was so humble and content,
and made a happy living.
One day, when Archana was trying to dry her clothes,
Oh, no!
My blanket,
the wind is taking it away.
Archana followed the wind and her blanket,
trying to get hold of it.
Stop!! Come back! Come back!
It's all that I have got,
if I lose it then I might die shivering, during nights.
Archana kept following the wind,
and the wind led her to a beautiful palace at the hilltop.
It was the palace of wind!
Archana gets in the castle
and meets an old lady in white.
Hello, young lady, I'm the mother of the wind.
Mother, the wind has taken away my only blanket.
Will you please get it back for me.
*Laugh*
Of course, of course.
Come with me.
The mother of the wind took Archana to a room,
full of delicious foods.
You must be tired,
please have anything you want.
Archana gently denied the offer,
and the mother of wind led her to another room,
which had sealed boxes of different sizes.
Here, young lady,
these boxes have different things in them,
even gold and silver.
You can choose one which you think that has your blanket.
But, you shouldn't open it here.
Said the mother of the wind.
Archana weighed every box and took the lightest,
thanked the mother of the wind
and walked out of the castle.
When she opened the box,
to her surprise there was her blanket clean and dry,
and also a bar of gold.
And, a greedy neighborhood lady named Bhavana
was watching all these silently through the window.
I must rush to the palace of wind and find my luck.
Hello, young lady, I'm the mother of the wind.
The wind has taken away my clothes,
and if you are not giving them back,
I'm going to destroy the castle
Cool down young lady,
please have something to eat.
Bhavana ate, almost everything she could.
Then,
Here, young lady,
you can choose one which you think that has your clothes.
But, you shouldn't open it here.
Greedy Bhavana took the heaviest box and walked out,
Argh! Argh!
Whaaaaat!!!
Was I just carrying a heavy load of sand all the way home?
Noooooo.
Kids, what have we learned from the story?
Archana got the right reward for her content mind,
and so got Bhavana for her greediness.
So, kids, never wish for something that is not yours.
