The River Banks
Sat on the river banks in silence
Listening to everything I could hear
Feeling the heat of the sun falling low in the sky as it warmed my cheeks to a rosy pink
Watched the ripples carry the reflection of the sun like liquid silver
Molten and burning so hot that it shined white
Directionless and moving in every direction
I thought about who I could be if I were paired with different people
Thought about who I would be if I were married
If I were to be a rower's wife
Then I could live in a house on the river banks
My days mimicking the tide
The tide falling low and rising high
If I were to be a spaceman's wife
Then I could live at the heights of the world
My days becoming nights when the stars come out to shine
Gleaming in a mosaic sky
As I thought about who I would be
Who I could and would be
It started to occur to me
I don't see myself existing
Existing individually
