Non-Player

Stephen Smithwilliams

Civilization requires some percent of the population
To keep their heads down, play it straight and generally obey the rules
Have a job and have some kids and train the next generation
We cannot afford every-one running 'round like fools

But a lucky few will face the odds and live the dream or pay the cost
And do what few else could

We get to be adventurers: kick the door in, slay the monster, claim the treasure, save the princess
We get to be the rock stars: leeching your hard work, you dumb NPC jerk

Leaps and bounds are made by those who risk all for glory
But if everyone were like that, we'd have total anarchy
It's just as crucial to have folks who only hear the story
And don't try to get involved, not even remotely

So grab your sword or grab your plow; don't matter which; just choose one now
And notify the bards

We get to be adventurers: kick the door in, slay the monster, claim the treasure, save the princess
We get to be the rock stars: leeching your hard work, you dumb NPC jerk

And the party needs a heal-stick, but no one wants to play
A support character when there are monsters to slay

Civilization requires some percent of the population
To defrag hard drives, shop at Wal-Mart, and generally just be a mook

We get to be the NPCs: build the door, and flee the monster; lose the treasure; don't meet the princess
We get to watch the rock stars from safe behind the wall and chortle as they fall
Be glad that we're not all as brave as them
