The Truth

Greg Graffin

Madness takes its toll on me
Still thoughts of what should be
Stupid lies used to comfort me
Wishing things they told would make sense

I used to be a man of principle
No true believer, never troubled
But now I stagnate on mundane things
I'm always concerned with what tomorrow brings

And these thoughts are a dream
A dream that's remained in my head
And destroys what I've said
And corrodes my will until I'm almost dead

The light flickers on, although not for long
The world turns away, and restores a new day
The sun never dies, and the new baby cries
I search my whole life, with inquisitive eyes

But I realize now I'll never find it
And I don't think the gods are gonna show it
'Cuz I realize now I'll never find
The truth
The truth

What's in a bond between two living things
What natural law can control such things
Are these the questions that motivate you
What is the force that tells you what to do

Well it might as well be a dream
A dream that remains in your head
And corrodes what you've said
And destroys your thought until you're almost dead

The light flickers on, although not for long
The world turns away, and restores a new day
The sun never dies, and the new baby cries
I search my whole life, with inquisitive eyes

But I realize now I'll never find it
And I don't think the gods are gonna show it
'Cuz I realize now I'll never find
The truth!
